Description
Num. of words: 1000
Topic: Opinions, insights, observations, experiences
Tone: Sincere
Extensive research needed: no
Extra notes: We are seeking articles from writers and journalists for a new app. We want to regularly commission imaginative writers who have masses of journalistic flair and can supply content worthy of the London Guardian. You will have off-beat opinions and can conjure entertaining articles out of everyday life or interesting experiences. Articles can be humourous or deeply serious.
The brief is to write 1,000 words on a topic of your own choosing. We will commission the ten best ideas at £25 for each article. We will need to see an opening paragraph or two of your article prior to being commissioned. We hope those writers we commission will become regular writers for the app. Please, no "Buzz Feed" style lists of things please. We are looking for writers not compilers. This article from the Guardian is a good example of the standard of writing (sort of) we are expecting https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/29/anyone-for-robotic-rumpy-pumpy.
Looking forward to seeing your work.

You have still not adequately explained why you are paying so poorly. As you know from your background, it takes time to craft good work. Therefore, you will be paying less than the minimum wage for the UK. Does this sit happily with you?

£25 for a Guardian quality article?
-
Hello Graham,
I am pretty sure you mean to only pay people once you've picked from a list of articles which means at this point it would be potentially unpaid. This is against the terms and conditions of use for People Per Hour. Furthermore, your budget is extremely low for a 1000 word article in keeping with The Guardian's standards.
Regards
Gemma E.Graham P.04 Aug 2017Hi Gemma, sorry for tardy reply. I am new to PPH and am finding it very difficult to get to grips with hence this slow response. Would you please take a look at some of my other replies which may help. I am mindful of not fully understanding PPH principes. BW Graham

Hi Graham,
Could you clarify where this article will be appearing? And under whose name?
Thanks,
J SweetGraham P.04 Aug 2017Hi, thanks for your message. It will be under YOUR name and will be appearing on a new app which will be launched in the autumn. You also retain copyright on your work. BW Graham

That's ENTRY rates for 1000 words.

Hi Graham, this sounds excellent. At this stage, am I right in thinking you'd like to see just a one or two graf pitch of an article? Or do you want 1000 words?
Graham P.04 Aug 2017Hi, that's right. Very interested in seeing your work. I am basically a first time user of PPH so still learning the rules and how to get the best out of it. BW Graham
Nick W.04 Aug 2017Awesome! Ill be in touch...:)

You'll really need to increase that budget for London Guardian style content.
Graham P.04 Aug 2017Hi, thanks for your message. I'm very mindful of that writing in a journalistic style is a very demanding craft and it could be very expensive for me to commission work from people who are basically bloggers. I am a former national newspaper features editor and even two or three paragraphs will tell me a lot about how someone writes. I hope this is helpful. This is a genuine opportunity for a good writer to earn a significant monthly income. BW Graham
Kieran B.04 Aug 2017Again, as others have pointed out, it's against the rules to ask for free samples. Most freelancers will be happy to provide previous samples of work for their portfolios.
