Description
Experience Level: Expert
I'm working on my VAT return for Q1 and I want some assistance with it. I want to ensure that I'm doing it correctly so I'll need you to audit in some way. I think that this return will be the first I've I've prepared where I'll be due a refund for VAT. This is because of the amount of exports outside the European Union. Because of this I want everything in the return to be watertight and correct in case I ever have an hmrc check. I've nearly completed it in Google sheets and can share with you.
My business is an e-commerce business mostly amazon. I'm essentially exporting a lot of products now to the US but we also sell in Europe.
I need you to be an expert in
- understanding reverse charges from services in the European Union as these affect how my VAT return boxes are filled out.
- understand how to account for sales with fluctuating currency rates in my UK vat return
- give me guidance on whether or not I need to complete a European sales list
- give me guidance on what figures should be included on my vat return. I'm confused if I need to include sales that are outside the scope of UK and European vat (USA sales which are dispatched from within the USA). I'm also confused if I need to include purchases in some boxes when no vat was due or paid (i.e from sellers under the threshold) .
- I need guidance on record keeping and the collecting of vat invoices.
Ideally I'd have a sheet at the end which clearly explained all the rational that went into completing the vat return so if it was ever audited I could refer easily to this.
As I think this project will be a lot of verifying work and answering questions I think it will work best as an hourly job but you will probably work on it intermittently. You will probably answer a bunch of my questions, then check my work including how I've filled in each box of the return. I liked to have this done by close of play on Tuesday 24th April.
