Description
Experience Level: Expert
I want to create a directory of media companies in a particular region.
The companies will only be media related companies, Media Company's with their brands such as: newspapers, radio stations, magazines. There will also be advertising agencies, design companies, marketing agencies, public relations companies etc.
There will be basic information and then there will be further information for registered users
All the companies will have basic information which will be the same for all name, address, telephone, website, emails, contact information. However, in some cases the information hat has to be filled for particular types of companies will be different to others.
For example, filling out information on newspapers will have to have an area to fill in circulation date and another one for readership data. Magazines the same, magazines will have their primary and secondary types ie Primary might be Pharmacy Magazine and secondary type would be Retail.
There are a few other dimensions which are unique to a particular medal, but I can draw up the forms for each medium and specify the unique parts for that medium.
I need the ability to have a backend so that I can add/amend or delete date. Also the we can add or amend categories. The site will then be able to display all this data. The end user would be, for example, be able to list all National newspapers. The data that displayed would be agreed on probably newspaper name, format, circulation, date of the circulation, readership and date of that readership. The data displayed would have been filled in the national newspaper form.
We would specify what way that data would be shown on the page (might the highest to lowest circulation or it might be displayed as the type of newspaper: Sunday, Morning then Evening). We then want to be able to search also by geography. The end user might want to search all media in a particular town or territory (pre defined). If the selected territory it would list all the local media in that territory.
Again we would specify the way those pages are laid out. Might list Weekly Newspapers first (as even in that we will specify this order they are to appear), then Free local papers, then local radio, then television stations, then cinemas etc. Again the layout will be specified.
When the companies are listed like in both examples above, it will be a simple listing but all the companies will be a link back to that companys page where all the data about that company is available thats an area open to registered users only.
There is something we ate thinking about: Having a checkbox beside contacts as that the end user could do a group mailing to those selected (we will have to discuss this)
You can begin to see that the data then becomes searchable in many different ways. There will be broad media, then subsections (ie the broad section would be newspapers, subcategories would be National, Weekly, Local and Free just to give an example).
Users will be able to list all design companies, PR agencies etc. Some companies will be able to specify a geographic region that they favour. Say there was an advertising agency but it was more localised and preferred to work in Territory B as opposed to nationally they would then show up in the listing of that specific territory along with all the other media in that area.
These are the basics of the directory and we can discuss this further.
