Description
Tone: Other
Extensive research needed: yes
Extra notes: We hope will find this an extremely interesting job.
We are a start-up called MyOpinionPal.com – The site, operations team and systems are ready to go but we are not yet open to visitors as we prepare our content. It is this content which we hope you can help us with.
The concept:
MyOpinionPal.com takes thoughts and opinions and then translates them into a very simple action to bring about change.
An Example:
MyOpinionPal website may list an action letter which is intended to be sent to Teresa May (UK Prime Minister) on the subject of Brexit. This letter could set out any number of proposed actions for the PM to take (e.g, Hard Exit, Soft Exit, No Exit etc…). The letter could be addressed, for example, to Teresa May’s personal secretary at no 10 downing Street.
Using MyOpinionPal, consumers select a Brexit letter that reflects their own opinion and then proceed to checkout. As many letters have sponsorship, this will generally be free to the consumer. The consumer creates an account and completes the confirmation via our check-out.
Next step; at MyOpinionPal we print out the personalised letter, place it into an envelope and send it 2nd class post (typically) or Royal Mail Signed For or International Standard Post to the intended recipient.
Within a couple of days the letter outlining the consumers opinion would arrive for the PM at number 10 and could elicit a written reply from the PM’s office.
Obviously a thousand or ten thousand letters of this type arriving in the mail of the PM’s personal secretary brings attention to an issue. It is our opinion that mass media and global electronic communications have reduced the voice of the individual; that e-petitions for example, although having an impact, lose the value of scale. In fact they create the sense that everyone is a number and that 10,000 more people supporting an issue is fairly similar to 10,000 less. MyOpinionPal wishes to change this – and to do so we need your help.
We look to writers/journalists/bloggers to help us create the content for our site. We ask you to craft strong and well thought out action letters to which the consumer can look to in support of the views which they hold themselves. You can write on any topic that you have knowledge and experience of and the action can be focused to any Government/Political Group/Business/Celebrity/Sportsman in the world that you can obtain a verifiable address for.
If you chose to submit your action letter to us for publication on the website you can choose one of two remuneration routes for each letter.
a) Pay per Publication: We pay you a negotiated price per letter/opinion which we publish.
Or
b) Pay per Check-Out: We pay you £0.10/$0.13 each time that your action letter is sent on behalf of a consumer after completing check-out.
To get going as quickly as possible simply send us a proposal for £20 to cover 200 letter check-outs, we will Accept and send you everything you need for the next stage.
Needless to say, a well-crafted letter on a hot topic could generate you thousands of pounds/dollars of income if heavily supported by the public.
We encourage our freelancers to write a diverse range of topics and we strongly suggest you support any published action letter with your own social media/publishing activity to encourage as many people as possible to support your view and send the letter.
We also encourage freelancers to write on subjects where the opinion is likely to get sponsorship as sponsorship makes the sending of a letter free for the consumer.
If you would like more information please reply to this job invite – we will also send you details of the format in which we expect the action letter to be submitted along with supporting evidence for any stated facts and an editorial guidance document.
Best regards

Hello David,
Just to clarify, you're asking us to write a letter on the grounds that it will be sent 200 times...what happens if more are sent, or less? and when do we get paid?David C.02 Oct 2016Thanks for your question. Yes, you're correct. If a letter gets more than 200 sends you will accumulate royalties from us at a rate of £0.10 per letter sent. We have a minimum weekly payment limit of £100 and a minimum monthly payment limit of £20. If it's less than £20 and you close your account we will pay the amount due, less transaction fees. I hope that helps.
Best regards

It seems to me that you are looking for strong content without any risk from your end.
The model is paying credits, but the amount of earnings does not necessarily rely on the strength of the arguments but how well you will market your web site. After all, good content without readers is worth nothing.
So can you provide details about your marketing plan, numbers you expect to cross your web site and how you expect to get them there?
It's OK saying the more the letter is accessed the better the return but your model is untested and unsupported by evidence at the moment, so I cannot assess how much the payment might be and relate that to the time, experience and skill I will expend creating the letters.
You also talk about a one-off payment without revealing the compensation arrangements.
And then there is the question about copyright. Who holds the rights to the letters - you or the writer?David C.02 Oct 2016We think of myopinionpal as the iTunes for Activists, Journalists and Writers. Much in the same way that iTunes doesn't pay for a Music Artist to create their music, nor do we pay for your content - it's a brand new model for this industry. As you point out, our job is to make your content available to as large an audience as possible. The copyright to the letter is owned by the author, but we get a revoke-able, exclusive world wide licence to publish it.
We are a lean start-up. I am personally funding the project but I have no desire to waste the £200-300K that i am willing to bring to bear. As a result we will approach our marketing slowly and with caution. I have personally run a successful digital and traditional marketing agency for some 21 years - Our focus now is to create content which is a compelling as possible and aim to establish ourselves through social media and to make our marketing messages as viral as possible. Once we have established a successful Minimal Viable Product we will run a crowd funding campaign to raise sufficient funds to expand our operations considerably.
In the meanwhile we need people like you. We want people with questioning, challenging minds to embrace our concept and put themselves into a position where they influence the way governments, corporations and even individuals behave.
In short, we are asking for a 40 minute (estimated time to create one letter, based upon existing knowledge and research) leap of faith.
Best regards

Hi David, I sent a proposal through last week. Any updates with the service?
David C.26 Sep 2016Hi Sarah
Sorry for the delay. My error. I have just accepted your revised proposal - We look forward to working with you. David -
No 10 downing street would not accept any letters as genuine without an actual genuin person signing it. If you send letters out for people they are not genuinely signed. Its a 'phoney' letter and recipients will know that. This is not for me. Money for old rope maybe but I don't do old rope. How do you propose to handle the signature on the letters you send out?
David C.20 Sep 2016It's a fair question. We intend to use the electronic signature of the device and user as used by applications such as Adobe e-sign. Sometimes we may need to send the letter via email or online form, these options will be available to the user when required.

Hi David,
I may be interested in writing some articles. You said you if I am interested you would send more information. Please can you keep me in the loop?
Thank you,
PaulDavid C.20 Sep 2016Hi Paul can you send me a proposal or a personal message as i'm unable to see a way to communicate with you at the moment. Thanks

Hi David,
I agree with the other posters: this is a very interesting idea. As someone skilled in argumentation I would love to flex my rhetoric. However, quality arguments will cost you.
No one highly skilled in rhetoric is going to work for peanuts. With this in mind, would you be prepared to pay professional rates?David C.19 Sep 2016Thanks for your support, we hope to help you flex that muscle. Our proposition is potentially a very lucrative one for writers, more so than any other comparable opportunity. It provides both an outlet for expression and, for many, a steady long term income as a number of campaigns could last years. The website is such that users can at a click follow and support the views of particular writers who they believe are most closely aligned with their own views. The result of which is that your earnings could grow significantly with your followers. MyOpinionPal is a unique model for writers and one which we believe could be very powerful as a tool for change. Best David

It is an interesting idea, certainly. However, your planned means of remuneration contravenes PPH rules (as they can't get a fixed cut) and freelancers tend to like to have more specifics to hand when bidding - in essence this is an open ended project and can't be costed or the rewards evaluated. It would be better is you could specify the parameters of the letter more clearly. Also, do you really intend to have competing ideas side by side, as seems the case from your brief (i.e. a pro Brexite template side by side with a call to abandon the project)?
MikeDavid C.19 Sep 2016Hi Mike,
Yes this is an open ended project. What a number of people have chosen to do is send a proposal for £20 per 200 letters that consumers send. We can then accept the proposal and each month we will update your PPH account with the additional letter revenue due as an additional charge.
Yes, This open project shows opposing views next to each other. This way people will be better informed before they start sending off letters without properly considering the alternative point of view.
If you send me a proposal for £20 per 200 letter sent, i'll send you more information and contact you directly once accepted.Mike C.20 Sep 2016Hi David,
I'd prefer to have more information, privately, before bidding. I should be interested to know what market analysis you have in hand on the likely demand for this service. I think it would be preferable if the buyer were to identify subject areas that they know will invoke significant interest (also, the point made below on circulars to No 10 is probably correct).

Hi David, This job sounds really interesting, but I'd like some more information before I send a proposal if possible please. For example, how "politically viable" vs. "accessible to the public" would you like the letters to be, or would that be of our choosing? Kind regards, Ameesha
David C.19 Sep 2016Hi Ameesha,
Delighted to send you more info. Can you send me a proposal (which i will initially decline so that i'm able to contact you. Thanks David
