Kate H.
Hockley, United KingdomI engaged Maria to design a presentation for me that I was giving as a very important potential client pitch. I sent over the Brief, slide content and my ideas on potential design for a few of the more graphic-heavy slides in advance.
I appreciate with this type of work there is a period of 'getting to know' style preference etc. Specifically because of this, I spent a lot of time feeding back in detail about what I liked and didn’t like on the first version of the presentation to help her get to know the style I was after and to help overcome this learning issue. After 4 or 5 iterations, we did eventually end up with a presentation style that worked satisfactorily, however there were significant issues throughout the process, in particular;
• Extremely poor and inconsistent formatting (font type and size, spacing between words, positioning of bullet points etc) throughout the presentation – and pointed out by myself at every iteration and not corrected
• My comments were frequently not corrected between iterations. In particular when I commented about disliking an image or asking to use icons rather than images, my comments were not taken on board and the presentation not altered to take account of them so I had to keep making the same comments over and over again
• The general visual presentation of the slides was often poor - poor colour choice or laid out in way that dulled the message of the slide down rather than re-enforced it
Ultimately, I ended up having to spend hours of my own time in the end correcting formatting, layout issues, colour inconsistencies etc myself because I just didn’t have time anymore to keep too-ing and fro-ing and the issues I raised not being corrected.
As mentioned, I was generally satisfied with the final presentation in the end but only after I invested a lot of time myself in correcting some of the most basic parts of it – part of very thing I was paying Maria to do. To her credit, she did try to send me back a corrected presentation after my final feedback but we were past my deadline at that point. Lack of attention to detail and consistency was not good.
