I would need sufficient information - names, dates and locations - to be able to find a story relevant to your family or business prior to 1940. For example, you might be able to share with me your online family tree and ask me to find a story relevant to a grandparent who appears on the 1911 UK Census. Perhaps you run a B&B in a house built in the 19th Century. Perhaps your customers would be interested in local links to a famous person or a character from literature.
The amount of detail I require will be less from people and/or places with unusual names than for locations or people with popular names. For example, I'm currently searching the archives for articles about the artist Sir David Wilkie, which is a relatively unusual name. As a result, I have found hundreds of articles that I can be confident are relevant. Conversely, last week I was looking for a Jane Clark or Clarke who was living in London in the 1860s. This was a much more difficult search that I was only able to carry out because I had fairly precise information about other family members.
The more information you can give me, the better the result is likely to be.
