It all started when I took a gap year. While everyone my age were freaking out about their university application, I decided to do some thinking of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, because I didn’t want to waste 3 years doing something that doesn’t interest me.
Life is short.
I figured: Hey, I like making things happen on screen!
Not long after that, I went and submit my application. I got accepted to some nice universities, but never get through due to lack of monies, and got rejected by the ones that I can actually afford to go.
Things went downhill from there. I got to admit that I was disappointed, because I was very excited to be around people who’ll love the things that I love.
I decided to ditch education. As if it’ll ever stop me from wanting to do what I want to do. No way!
Self-learning without direction is pretty tough. It’s even tougher when you don’t have anyone to talk design with, or own the essentials (i.e. A decent design machine, at least!)
To earn some cashies, I started out in a souvenir shop and did things like putting logos on t-shirts, scanning the advertisement section on the local phone book for logos, and making flyers with ridiculous amount of information in it. After that job, I did a few more that involves me knocking on people’s door for research and answering phone calls. That’s just some of the many things I did.
Even with a day job, I still kept myself busy with freelancing and self-initiated projects at nights and weekends. During this time, I explore so much type of design from photo manipulation, digital painting to illustrations.
I am still exploring the exciting wonderful world of design.
