Throughout my education, I have focused on survey based research, and statistical data analysis. I have completed 2 survey based research projects, and am working on the final report for my third.
My first research project was with a team, as a part of a research methodology class. I worked under close supervision and gained valuable knowledge about sampling method, paper surveys, data entry into SPSS, and oral presentation of results.
My second (and continuing) research project was with a team, with little supervision. I worked as research lead, supervising 2 teams of data analysts (one focusing on quantitative analysis of survey data, and one focused on qualitative analysis of narrative respondent feedback data). I supervised the writing of the research question, writing of the survey instrument, obtaining financing for respondent incentives (totaling $2,000), and implementation of the survey instrument online. I personally executed the quantitative data importing into SPSS, quantitative data cleaning, quantitative data coding, and the presenting of results at: 4 University level symposiums, 1 state level symposium, and 1 regional conference.
My third research project was an independent project I worked on from conception to completion with little supervision. I designed the research question, synthesized the literature review, and built the theoretical framework for the research. I then designed the survey and implemented it online, leveraging social networking websites (Facebook, Twitter, and online community forums) to garner 611 responses with no monetary incentives. After data collection, I imported the data into SPSS, coded and cleaned the data, ran statistical analysis (which included one sample t-tests, factorial analysis, principal axis factor, explanatory factor analysis, multiple regression, factorial ANOVA, and cross-tabulations), and reported the findings in both written and oral forms.
I have extensive experience using SPSS, and am comfortable using the syntax feature to execute a number of operations within the program. Data and statistics excite me; I love dealing with data sets because in the end, they represent people and their traits and opinions.
