Summary: Prior to setting up on my own, I was head of communications at Community at Heart, the organisation overseeing the government’s New Deal for Communities regeneration programme in East Bristol. I set up the communications unit from scratch, produced a comprehensive three-year communications and marketing strategy for the partnership and initiated successful community newspaper and radio projects run by local people.

THE BIG SWITCH • ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
Successfully designed and implemented a two-year employee communications campaign, targeting all 13,000 staff members affected by a major computer software upgrade from Microsoft Office 97 to 2003 and GroupWise to Outlook.
BRIGHT IDEAS • WILTSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
Introduced a staff suggestion scheme pilot, encouraging all 7,000 employees to get proactively involved in the move from five separate county and district councils to a single unitary authority in 2009. More than 200 ideas were submitted during the three month pilot.
10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS • THE NATIONAL LOTTERY
Managed a high profile regional media campaign across the South West (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The National Lottery. Secured substantial coverage in print and broadcast media, including many interviews with local jackpot winners.
WEBSITE REVAMP • JEKKA’S HERB FARM
Working with Bristol web designers, managed the web relaunch for Jekka’s Herb Farm, the country’s leading grower of organic herbs and 12-time gold medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show. Selected by The Independent on Sunday as one of its Top Ten Food Websites.
THE ART OF LEADERSHIP • THE MENTOR CONSULTANCY
Delivered an effective media campaign for Bristol business management training company, The Mentor Consultancy, exploring the skills and capabilities needed by successful managers and leaders. Secured extensive coverage in local and regional newspapers, business and trade press, including a regular feature in the Western Daily Press profiling the views of prominent business leaders in the region.
GRASS ROOTS • COMMUNITY AT HEART
Set up a community newspaper initiative in the Barton Hill area of Bristol, the focus of a massive government funded regeneration programme. The aim of the project was to give local people a much needed voice on the forthcoming developments in their area. Supported residents to form an editorial team and provided training on journalism, graphic design and photography. In 2007 Grass Roots became an independent company and continues to report news in the area.
