With direct experience and ability in writing, editing, pre-production and team-working, I am used to managing my own time as an independent editor and working to tight deadlines to produce award-winning copy. I have focused my career on the arts and music, and particularly excel in artist features, but am comfortable with many writing disciplines.
Area Covered: London, remote working
Work Experience Summary: I have written promotional and PR features for high-profile clients, across a range of disciplines (retail, governmental, engineering, education, healthcare, charities), sourcing images to illustrate features, editing, sub-editing and research.
Prior to moving to the UK, I was Features Editor at my town newspaper. In that role I was responsible for identifying and following-up compelling stories centred around the local area and residents; writing, editing, and production (including page design and layout using Quark Express) to stringent deadlines and exacting standards, writing and proof-reading to Associated Press Style, photojournalism, Special Edition features for tourism literature and inserts, business coverage, historical coverage, educational coverage, in-the-field reporting to deadline. Designed and implemented cooking advertorials, including content. I was also responsible for the single largest revenue-producing feature of the year, the yearly Graduation Tab, which included short biographies and contributions from graduating seniors and congratulatory advertising from local businesses.
My journalism career began while I was in high school, and I began writing professionally at the age of 17. The first city newspaper I wrote for was The Fort Collins Coloradoan (Fort Collins, Colorado, USA). I was chosen as one of seven writers from local high schools, and contributed once a month in a special column highlighting young peoples views on current events, activities for young people in Fort Collins, and challenges facing local youth. I was was asked to take a leadership role among the writers. This job paved the way for me to pick up an additional job at a local monthly entertainment newspaper called The Scene. I was successful in securing the role against over 50 adult candidates. I wrote features that varied from business coverage to indoor paintball wars. I left this position after graduating from high school.
Education Summary: Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado, USA - studied Classical Greek and writing and poetics at the world-famous Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics
London School of Journalism, London - intensive short course to familiarise myself with the UK market prior to moving to the UK.
