I have an Honours degree in Japanese from the University of Leeds, and one year's experience translating pro-bono for the charity Japan Association for Refugees.
My translations have been awarded distinctions, including specialised translations in areas such as technical, medical and financial. My research papers and journalistic essays on the subject of translation theory have also received distinctions.
My main interest is in Japanese popular culture and video games, and my research interests involve the connection between ludology and narrative in the translation of Japanese RPGs (Role Playing Games). I have had training in the use of paratexts, corpora and CAT-tools, and am able to translate in any field.
In 2004 I won a scholarship sponsored by the Japanese embassy in the UK to study in Japan for a year, and between the years of 2010-2011 I studied at Hosei University in Tokyo. I have lived in Japan for four years in total.
Japan has been my passion since I was a child, and I have a broad awareness of the culture and society thanks to these experiences and my educational background.
I look forward to working with you in the future!
