Dublin, IEGot there eventually - Amit requested I log critical requests to the hosting company in order to resolve issues. Comes back later to say they were resolved. Seemed to expect a high lovel of technical understanding from me rather then the other way around...

There were really server issues. if you contact to server person with my that error and screen-shot then they can check at that time's server log and will let you know about it. that's why I told you to I log critical requests to the hosting company in order to resolve issues.
Please note that after some times that error gone and I was able to log in FTP server. it means hosting person fixed it.
This is also note that server issues can be occur anytime and fix by server person. It is a technical issue and can only handle by server person, no any freelancer can handle it because I have no any access rights to make changes in hosting server machine.
