I've always worked closely with printers and have good knowledge of processes and know better than most as to what works on press etc. I have expert knowledge of Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc with additional knowledge of workflow systems, InPosition, PDF proofing etc.
I am an accomplished all round designer with experience ranging from corporate identities, magazine layout, photoshop editing, illustration.
Due to my time in repro environments I'm also an excellent troubleshooter and can see a way round problems or fix existing issues with artwork.
Area Covered: West Midlands, Nationwide
Work Experience Summary: Studio Manager
February 2008 - September 2009
My role was a multi-faceted one with me being responsible for a wide range of tasks. I liaised with customers on a day to day basis, which required the ability to listen and assess client needs correctly. This proved challenging but rewarding as they ranged from industrial companies to voluntary organizations, charities, small businesses and political parties. I then go on produce the artwork for proofing and finally for production.
Alongside this I was a pre-press troubleshooter dealing with customer disks and making sure they were suitable for output, fixing any problems I found along the way. I was responsible for the ordering of all plates and films making sure they were on-site and ready for the press.
Working close to a print environment has given me invaluable experience which I now apply to my design work. I find being aware of the limitations and pitfalls of the litho process enables me to optimize my work to give the very best printing results.

Prior to redundancy, my position required me to learn new skills and adapt to new challenges. Part of my role was that of in-house designer, creating publicity material for a midlands based cosmetic clinic. I was also responsible for the project managing the creation of an on-site medical facility. This involved researching Department of Health requirements and ensuring all work undertaken conformed to strict guidelines and the sourcing and purchasing of furniture and equipment.
May 2000 - January 2007
In my position as Technical Manager I handled several accounts personally and dealt with clients on a regular basis, discussing design briefs prior to production. I was also responsible for ensuring all commercial work was produced to strict deadlines, staff training and maintenance of all studio equipment.
December 1996 - May 2000
I started employment as a trainee Mac Operator and quickly gained a lot of experience in a short space of time. I had to learn how to use all the major Mac applications such as Quark Xpress and Adobe Photoshop and how to process jobs for proofing and output to film. I was also trained in scanning, matchprint proofing and plate making.
Education Summary: I completed a B-TEC National Diploma in Graphic Design in 1994 followed by a B-TEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design which I finished in 1996. Since then I have worked in various design studios within the industry up to management level. I now run by own successful business offering design and printing services.
