My degree course requires excellent written and oral communication skills and has given me a great deal of experience writing, editing and proof reading essays, as well as in researching specific topics. I founded the Warwick Film Studies Society last year and am now the Publicity Officer. I have designed posters, logos and the society website - warwickfilmstudies.moonfruit.com. I work part-time in a jewellery shop, and my duties include writing web content, such as jewellery descriptions and news stories, e-mailing customers and suppliers and visual merchandising in store. I have also been involved in designing posters and leaflets for the store.
Area Covered: Blackpool, North-West.
Work Experience Summary: Jewellery Consultant - Fabulous jewellery store, Leamington Spa. Oct 08 - Present.
I currently work part-time at the weekends in a busy designer jewellery store to help fund my university studies. My main responsibility is customer service on the shop floor; this involves dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis, covering everything from offering advice on purchases, handling enquiries about designers and materials, and consulting with other branches and suppliers to find out-of-stock items. This role requires me to have a friendly and approachable demeanour, whilst also being knowledgeable and professional, dealing with issues quickly and efficiently. The company is very service oriented, and focuses on creating a lasting relationship with customers rather than on sales; we hope to encourage customers to come back by creating a rapport and a sense of familiarity with them, rather than by up-selling or working on commission. Besides the customer service aspects, my role also involves visual merchandising of point-of-sale displays and window dressing, in which I strive to maintain high standards of presentation in store and to maximise visual impact on passing footfall. As well as dealing with customers face-to-face, I handle sales and enquiries over the phone and via email, as the company also has a very successful website, which is run in-store. I have been involved in marketing and publicity roles for the website, responsible for copy writing (such as item descriptions, news stories and blog entries), requiring creative sales skills and grammatical accuracy, as well as the use of techniques such as organic search engine optimisation to help increase traffic to the site. I have designed posters and flyers for use in store to publicise events and special offers, and have been involved in the design of our quarterly catalogues. Fabulous is run by a small workforce across three branches, and so the smooth running of the stores depends on excellent communication and co-operation across our team.
