Job Title: ICT Network Manager
Company: Ryton Comprehensive School
Description: "ICT Network Manager" I was responsible for three technicians and school network. The network has had minimal hour"s downtime in nine years, completing any work requiring downtime outside operating hours. The school network consists of 520 desktop and 150 laptop computers, 1250 students and around 150 teaching staff. I designed, configured and implemented the network. It operates on a multi VLAN managed HP switched infrastructure, migrated from 3com. The core is 20 servers running Windows server 2003 and 2008, of which 8 are virtualized with VMWare ESX 3.5; converted from physical servers using VM Converter and backed up using VCB with SAN storage over iSCSI. These servers offer the following services:
Multiple 2003 Domain Controllers
DHCP (Super subnetted C Class)
IIS 6 / IIS 7
SQL 2008 / 2005
SCCM 2007 R2
Multiple Exchange 2007 Servers
2008 Terminal Servers
Routing and Remote Access, IAS
We directly host the school website, plus a few other websites supporting charities. I also operate multiple exchange 2007 servers (migrated from 2003 exchange), supporting around 2000 mailboxes. I implemented a school wide secured wireless access with centralized wireless LAN controllers, authenticating against MS IAS Radius server. With the team, we provide support in the classroom. I prioritise the workload via a helpdesk ticket system we developed, communicating ticket progress to staff. I manage three ICT budgets; deal with external contractors operating best value policy (three quotes / catalyst companies). On multiple occasions, I have been requested on a consultation basis; advising, implementing solutions, network and infrastructure to other schools within the local authority, under very tight deadlines.
"Project Manager", undertaking many projects, from the school Senior Management team. My current project nearing completion, is a migration to MS System Center Configuration Manager and rolling out a full Windows 7 deployment. Other previous projects include developing classrooms, dealing with all the various contractors e.g. carpets, electrics, desks, cabling. Making sure these are completed with the allotted time scale which is usually holiday periods. Also, I successfully bid against external contractors to implement the school security camera system at around £25000 and completed each stage prior to deadlines, with no disruption to the main school, using one technician as lead to develop career progression under performance management.
"Teacher" role, I run a BTEC IT Networking module which I have done successfully for over five years now. I have also just established the school as a Microsoft Academy and already delivering professional E-Learning courses.
