Helped set up the concept, content and design of a weekly trade magazine aimed to look like a consumer glossy for a mobile trade audience. Lead an editorial team of seven staff, with responsibility for writing (both generating topics for news, features and profiles and encouraging staff to do the same), product reviews, writing an opinion column, setting deadlines, managing page plans, picture research (including sourcing cover images), liaising with the production team over desktop publishing design and layout of work. Managing production schedules, commissioning freelance writers and photographers. Sub editing all copy (ensuring it is good enough to print and reflects house style), rewriting where necessary (particularly with technical text to improve clarity and readability) and proofreading all pages prior to going to press. Managing budgets, hiring (and firing) staff, maintaining and raising the profile of the magazine, pitching for clients, networking with others in the industry, attending seminars, conferences and trade fairs in the UK and internationally.
