Work Experience Summary: For three years, I have worked at The National Student Drama Festival, based in Scarborough, coordinating two venues. I liaised with a large number of companies in the commercial sector who supplied their equipment and staff to the programme. I was happy to take on this work on an expenses only basis, as it gave me the opportunity to develop my organisational skills and a broad base of contacts.
On the strength of my performance at Scarborough, I was given paid work for NSDF working as their Production Manager for a small European tour. This involved the planning and organisation of the transfer of their flagship production Shaking Cecelia to Amsterdam and Brussels, where it became part of an international repertoire of student productions. This transfer was particularly challenging for me because as well as organising the transfer and fit up (including commissioning and shipping a bespoke crate containing the front half of a pink Mini!) I was also the lighting designer. The season was a great success and the following year I was again employed as Production Manager for the NSDF transfer of Tea Without Mother to Spain and the Czech Republic.
During my employment with Northern Stage, and in addition to my practical side of my job, I was also responsible for the technical administration of the Electrics department. This aspect of my role included the maintenance of budgetary records, and the researching and ordering of supplies for the department. I was also expected to prepare and analyse plans, and write appropriate correspondence, and perform general administration such as photocopying and filing. While the Chief Electrician was on tour, I booked travel and accommodation on his behalf.
I relish a challenge and always enjoy the process of problem solving a new project, or extending my skill base. Having worked in the theatre industry most of my working life, I am used to anti social hours and am prepared to be completely flexible. I am physically strong, and have been trained in manual handling. I am also a qualified first aider.
Outside of work, I am passionate about reading and I like to write my own works of fiction. I enjoy walking in the countryside, particularly in the Cotswolds. I
