The work has been great for funding my travels in Europe, Latin America and elsewhere, enabling me to apply and strengthen some of my key writing and analytical skills at the same time.
Having discovered that freelancing can support my adventurous lifestyle, and that I have the self-motivation and organisational skills to combine the two together, I am continuing to focus on obtaining work to suit my writing skills and interests.
Having a 'portable office' helps me fulfil my desire to keep learning about different cultures and places, whilst earning a living at the same time. Once the wanderlust starts to subside - if it ever does - I would like to continue writing as a profession. If it doesn't... Then I will continue as I am!
Area Covered: Anywhere remotely; otherwise Bristol, UK
Summary: I have been working as a Freelance Media Analyst for almost five years, enabling me to apply some of my key writing and analytical skills.
Previously, I worked in various management and administrative capacities at a UK university over a five-year period. Much of my work required me to write reports and other documentation for a variety of audiences, some of which were creative, some persuasive, and some more rigid in style. I also managed a wide range of administrative and practical projects, and managed a team of staff. In 2007 I obtained PRINCE2 Project Management Registered Practitioner status.
I have managed teams of people in several organisations, and have a wide range of experience from customer-oriented positions prior to working at the University.
Job Title: Freelance Media Analyst
Description: As a freelance media analyst for a PR analysis and measurement company I read and analyse various media for a range of clients, producing information and reports according to the needs of each client.
The analysis requirements vary, and include: summarising articles from newspaper publications and highlighting key pieces of information in a database; reporting up-to-date corporate and industry developments to clients on a regular basis; and compiling daily social media "buzz" reports, reflecting up-to-date client and competitor references on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and various blogs and fora. It is therefore essential for me to adapt my writing style according to each specific requirement.
I am required to be thorough with my analysis, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. It is also essential for me to work to tight deadlines, whilst maintaining a high standard of analysis and writing at all times.
