I was a Regional Representative on a private companies National Staff Council, negotiating on pay and conditions and undertaking necessary casework. I have continued this work in the education sector and until recently was Vice Chair of the Southampton Solent University UCU branch. Through my work with the union I was involved in negotiation on pay and conditions; policy development and review; and lead case officer for all individual cases, working closely with the Personnel department and the Senior Management team.
Throughout my professional life I have been actively involved in the development and promotion of equality, diversity and human rights. This work has encompassed policy development, research, teaching and training, promoting good practice through discussion and debate, individual casework and mediation.
