In April 2001 I formed my own company after building up a regular workload from a number of local clients. This prompted me to consider developing a client base further afield, and since then have had work from businesses all around the north west and also completed a large project for a law firm in London reading Irish Law reports. I was contracted by Aquent to work at MBNA Europe Bank Limited in September 2000 and worked in the Marketing Dep’t as a proofreader there until February 2011. They were taken over by Bank of America in January 2006 who now run the credit card operation in Europe, still keeping the MBNA brand.
I was also approached by FMX magazine to write two articles which I decided to accept. They were published a couple of years apart, the reason being that they wanted a view of Liverpool before and after the appointment as European Capital of Culture in 2008. The second article was about the continuance of the regeneration of Liverpool city centre and future plans. (FMX magazine is read by a wide cross-section of Facilities Managers; Office Managers; Senior Managers; Architects and Design Specifiers. It has an approx. readership of around 50,000 subscribers.)
My current status is unemployed, so I am available to work immediately as a contractor through my business or as a full-time permanent member of staff.
Area Covered: Anywhere in the UK as I have access to the internet on my PC
Work Experience Summary: April 2010 to February 2011. Bank of America (MBNA Europe Bank Limited, Chester Business Park, Chester) Conversion from contractor to full-time, 35 hrs per week
April 2000 to April 2010. As PB Editorial Limited, 32 hrs per week at Bank of America (MBNA Europe Bank Limited, Chester Business Park, Chester) and various other assignments.
My work was varied and included reading the terms and conditions and small print relating to the Bank’s credit cards, and reading and editing the promotional literature relating to their mail campaigns; all of which have to legally comply with the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority). The mail packs were mostly printed on leaflets and flyers which had to include the terms and conditions, but more recently I was amending detail on-screen once the Bank’s website was operational. I had to work closely with the Bank’s legal dep’t during this period, so the input of our team was invaluable during these meetings.
We were always able to deliver these complex campaigns within tight timescales, but it never impacted on our accuracy. I am used to working on my own initiative, or as part of a team whatever the requirements.
January 2001 to January 2003. Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, Sale, Cheshire. Proofreading the articles in their own monthly trade publication Civil Engineering Surveyor; and regular supplements to the magazine.
