Although my course covered different areas within traditional book publishing, namely Production, Marketing, Rights and Editorial, we were also encouraged to develop other skills that would complement the core courses such as InDesign, Creative Writing for the Media Industry, as well as carrying out projects and presentations in small groups, which improved my communication and presentation skills.
In addition to this, I undertook an internship in the International Co-edition Sales department for three months at a publisher-packager company for illustrated books, where I had the opportunity of seeing first-hand the interaction between the different departments. I attended production meetings and so became more aware of how the book publishing process worked; I was able to assist the Publisher and the Co-edition Sales team in the preparation of their Book Fair trips to Europe and the US; likewise, I was asked to do market research for possibilities of selling some titles in the Spanish book market.
I am a native from Spain and I speak and write English and Spanish fluently. Before and throughout the MA course, I have been employed as a freelance Business Language Teacher (English, Spanish), and I have worked as a Translator and an Administrative Assistant in the past.
I am open to jobs that entail and include all those occupations I have experienced and what I have trained in such as Language teaching, publishing and translation.
