As a freelancer I encourage the use of creative dialog between myself and my clients. This may take form in a being ever available at a time of need through to helping develop digital content from brief and on deadline. I presently act as the only point of contact for all my past clients and as such feel my communication skills are very good.
I was given a freelance contract with London Southbank University as webmaster a year ago which has helped polish my ability to deal with technical faults in a calm, organised manner. For me, fixing a dead link can be equally as important as gauging user experience via networking.
I value the bridge between practical application and creativity and in this light would consider myself to be a new media ‘all rounder’. The way in which content is formatted and processed can have as much impact, from the perspective of the end user, as a well thought out logo or colour scheme.
From integrating a twitter feed, adjusting copy or making sure analytics are considered, I take make sure that all digital content is reviewed at every step and in every context.
To me new media should not be locked to the technologies or trends that we currently consider ‘the norm’. I am experienced and educated enough to understand when an idea is worth looking at, specifically when it may turn out to be more participatory than those already in place
