Responsibilities included advocacy and technical assistance to strengthen birth registration systems supporting government at national, provincial and municipal levels. Given government commitment to universal registration of children, my work at UNICEF prioritized strategies to ensure sustainability of birth registration including collaboration Statistics South Africa and the Department of Home Affairs to strengthen monitoring systems for birth registration. From 10 March till 07 April 2006, the contract was extended to assist with strategic planning for the five year UNICEF country programme cycle starting from 2007-2011.
