Due to the current economic climate I was made redundant from my job as the construction industry slowed down. This motivated me to start my own architectural design firm with another architect. I attended networking events to build relationships with new clients and as a result have undertaken many small projects.
Studying at university enhanced my creativity and skills. It also gave me a passion for broadening my knowledge. The subject being wide taught me to work in a team, to communicate effectively, to think about problems from many perspectives, to write creatively and to best showcase my talents in addition to the key design skills needed for architects.
Working in professional practice allowed me to become more confident in utilising my abilities. I started as a junior and quickly worked alongside the senior architects and took on my own projects. I worked on many projects including an award winning office building in the centre of Bradford and I designed a modern community centre in Huddersfield. I regularly helped on projects outside of my own to assist people within the practices with my abilities. This included photography, presentations, entering architectural competitions, meeting clients, making physical models and 3d cad models.
In my spare time I have worked with a youth organisation helping out at events, creating a monthly newsletter and doing charity work.
I have been a teacher and coordinator at my local mission house. Running classes for boys aged between 7 and 15.The classes are not just religious the children also learn about the world around us, take part in sports activities, participate in role plays among other things.
My interests involve travelling, I enjoy photography, watching contemporary cinema, visiting museums, galleries and learning about culture.
I am very keen on IT and computers. I have advanced knowledge of IT, I can build or repair computers and have knowledge of many current software programmes. I learn new programmes quickly and try to use these on projects that I undertake. I have currently been researching creating 3d stereoscopic movies and utilising my findings to create 3d stereoscopic renderings of buildings to be viewed on a monitor through shutter glasses.
I always look forward to expanding my practical and theoretical knowledge by pursuing my career in architecture. In doing this I seek to advance my knowledge further and to improve my personal skills. I am committed, patient, persistent and I strive to outperform myself in every new project I undertake.
