Work Experience Summary: Bio Mike Visagie
I was born in South Africa and moved to the UK in 1991. While in South Africa I worked in HR during the turbulent Apartheid area and gained a huge amount of experience in conflict resolution and management training. I initially worked for the hotel group Southern Sun where I was personnel manager for a 450 staff hotel in Durban, the Elangeni. I was then promoted to Regional Personnel Manager for the Natal Region which had 8 hotels and approximately 1800 staff. I was responsible for the entire HR function and Industrial Relations. The Elangeni Hotel became one of the first businesses in South Africa to computerise its HR function in a PC environment. I was then headhunted by Fedics, an Industrial Catering company, as Group Personnel Manger where I supported the Industrial Relations function as well as computerising the HR function for some 7000 staff.
Having moved to the UK I found myself working with the communications sector for British Telecom and Telewest. Here I held senior Business Development positions. I then moved to the US with the international technology company Teradyne where I worked as Business Development Director. At Teradyne I was responsible for developing new markets for the companys latest technology used by Global Telecoms operators. In 2000 I closed the largest ever order with BT at a value of $28million.
The effects of the Dot Comm bubble bursting and 9/11 brought me back to the UK in 2003 where I established and ran Wire Solutions and Connected World Communications. Both companies sold telecommunication and IT solutions to SMEs on behalf of BT and The Carphone Warehouse. I was responsible for the day to day running of the company and the launch of Connected World. In 2007 I exited Wire Solutions and retained a share holding in Connected World.
In the beginning of 2008 I started consulting and initially worked with the French company Cortix, who provide IT and web solutions to SMEs. Here I established a UK and Irish presence for the company. I set up two offices from scratch developing all the required legal and procedural documentation and recruited and trained sales and administration staff. I also trained an outbound call centre operation in Tunisia who called into the UK and Ireland. My contract ended at the end of 2008 and in 2009 I became a partner in Appletree where we work with organisations like Unilever as change catalysts. In addition to this I work with SMEs who are looking to develop a successful online and social media strategy or looking for general business support. This may encompass areas like: Website development, SEO, Google Addwords, emarketing, enews, online sales, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
I am a leader with great creativity and intuition who is able to think outside of the box. My managerial experience is broad and my technical knowledge deep, which enables me to understand a wide range of challenges faced by leaders and organisations today.
