I specialise in etchings and hand drawn pen and ink illustrations that rely rather heavily on a large supply of 0.05 fineliners. In addition to spending hours and hours drawing everything I can think of, I also work as an arts educator and workshop leader, inspiring other folks to spend hours and hours drawing everything they can think of.
I am currently producing an etched graphic novel called 'Love & Lament'; an illustrated collection of great historical love letters between men and women. It features a pot-bellied naked Napoleon and the spit-fetishist Tchaikovsky amongst numerous other loved up characters.
I started illustrating whilst working as a Family Support worker at HMP Brixton (I doodled for the children on visits to see their fathers, and helped to run arts based family days for the men serving time). I have spent the last six years working with museums, schools and cultural organisations both as an illustrator, writer and as an arts educator, delivering workshops to pupils ranging in ages from four to eighteen. These workshops have covered a diverse range of topics from ‘Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts’ (British Library), to ‘Exquisite Corpses’ (House of Illustration) and 'Heroes, Villains and Vixens' (Latitude Festival).
I was awarded Emerging Talent runner-up for Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2011 by Shaun Tan and won Creative Flair’s Illustration Award. I was selected to study at londonprintstudio's 'Best of Young British Comic Talent' 6 month scholarship scheme in 2011 - 2012 and was published in ‘Images 35: Best of British Contemporary Illustration’ annual. Previous published books include 'The Moomin Adventure Book' (Self Made Hero), 'The Illustrated Cooking Journal' (Cicada Books). My work will be be featured in 'Illustration: Meeting the Brief' due for publication by Bloomsbury next year.
My literary agent is Rocking Chair Books.
