I'm enthusiastic about any topic I'm writing about, although anything culture-based (films, music, art, events) are my specialist areas. Most of my experience is online so relevant links can be given if you'd like to see my work. Thanks.
Area Covered: Copywriting and feature writing - based in West Midlands
Job Title: Creative Copywriter & Marketing Assistant
Company: The Watch Hut / T H Baker
Description: In my dual role as copywriter and marketing / e-commerce assistant, I am charged with many duties and copy-led marketing strategies concerning jeweller T H Baker"s online presence, The Watch Hut. I write original watch-related content and news to feature on the website, distribute press releases and features elsewhere online to improve search engine ranking, and produce copy for monthly newsletters. I oversee both Facebook and Twitter accounts, in a bid to increase interactivity with customers and offer multimedia content. I have also had experience managing the site"s Google AdWord account, monitoring keyword performance and creating ads. In an effort to increase awareness of T H Baker stores and events, I have contacted journalists and TV/radio staff to organise stories and ads to run in newspapers, supplements and other media.
Job Title: Acount executive
Company: Rewired PR
Description: In my three months spent as a trainee at Rewired (CIPR PRide Midlands Awards "Outstanding Small Consultancy" in 2009), I developed a number of skills related to PR and events. Although my primary role was writing original press release copy for various client campaigns, ranging from a national music festival to Cadbury, I also oversaw several databases, managed press cutting folders, and helped organise and manage events including a national film premiere. Having direct contact with national and regional journalists was helpful in giving me a better sense of how journalists on recognised titles work. Coverage from my press releases was achieved in high-profile titles such as The Sunday Times Culture, Design Week and The Metro. During my tenure at Rewired, one client Punch Records – a Birmingham-based record label and arts organisation – requested personally that I take the lead and run workshop sessions on marketing for young people looking for a break in the music industry. I conducted my sessions in their offices at weekends and structured lesson plans to impart knowledge to the young people in question.
Job Title: Junior Copy Editor
Company: Keep Able / Mobilis
Description: In my role as copywriter for one of the UK"s largest healthcare and disability retailers, I uploaded original content for the company"s ever expanding websites via three different content management systems. Whether distributing press releases, writing newsletters or uploading technical product information, it was my responsibility to ensure all information was accurate and consumer-friendly. The role was heavily tied to SEO and I worked closely with advertising colleagues.
Job Title: Freelance Contributor
Company: Fused Magazine
Description: Fused is a culture and lifestyle magazine aimed at young people. It is based in Birmingham but is distributed internationally. As well as contributing my own interviews and features on a freelance basis, I have contributed to the Fused blog, subbed copy and performed a basic administration role within the office.
Job Title: Contributor / Writer
Company: The Music Fix
Description: TMF is a specialist music website (Best Blog – BT Digital Music Awards 2010) and the sister site to the popular DVD Times, which I have also contributed to. I have contributed a number of album, single, gig and festival reviews over the last five years, as well as original features and artist interviews. During my time with the site, I have also developed close working relationships with record label (both major and independent) PRs.
