Area Covered: Graphic Design
Job Title: Graphic Designer
Company: Accent Magazines
Description: I recently have been made redundant as a graphic designer from
Accent Magazines Ltd and had been part of the company for 8 over
years. Accent Magazines is the largest independent publishing
company in the North East, which currently produce numerous
magazines including North East HouseHunter, Accent Magazine and
North East Times.
Working with such a wide ranging portfolio of magazines means that I am required to have a multifarious approach to my work with major responsibilities including client liaison, design visualisation and regular contact with reprographic and print houses. The nature of the work is deadline driven, so I was required to display key skills such as strong file management, organisation and time keeping.
Since 2002, I have found that my duties and responsibilities to have greatly increased. In 2005 I was promoted to lead designer on South Tyne & Wear HouseHunter magazine and from then onwards I have had the responsibility for overseeing all of Manchester Living magazines design and production requirements.
Recently I had undertaken even greater responsibility and now
assist the head of the production department with the holiday roster's, sickness and other varied departmental administrative tasks. My most recent work has included overseeing the production and design requirements of the North East Times Business Who"s Who Magazine, a publication which lists the current top salesmen and women in the North East. In December 2009, Accent Magazines won the contract to produce the Tom May Testimonial brochure, a task which was undertaken by myself and another colleague within the production department. My duties for this publication included developing visuals for the editorial pages and producing a wide range of advertising for various rugby and other sporting related advertisers.
Other magazines I have worked on over the past few years are those of Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood, publications relating to members of the current England cricket team and more recently the IAMVIP magazine.
