Job Title: Manager Development
Company: Pooranee Inspirations (Pvt) Ltd
Description: I joined the company from September 2008 as a Web Developer. From March 2009 onwards I was promoted to Senior Software Engineer and subsequently promoted to the post of Manager Development from April 2009 during the re-structuring of the company and worked up to April 2011.
My development and management experience at Pooranee are as follows.
Development of a Tri-Lingual Dictionary for the website of the Department of Official Languages.
Customization and deployment of Joomla (Open Source CMS) extensions for providing interactive features in the sub-sites under Department of National Botanic Gardens of Sri Lanka website development project.
Worked as a Project Manager cum Senior Software Engineer for the "Government Information Centre Phase II Project" that involved re-engineering the existing www.gic.gov.lk for the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri lanka (ICTA). Handled overall project management, necessary documentation and supporting the development team in terms of requirements analysis, generating the information architecture, database design & development and coding.
Over 200 government sector officers were trained on updating information in the "Government Information Centre" website at SLIDA on the 27th and 28th august 2009 where I participated as a trainer. Apart from that I trained many government officers and private clients on how to use the systems developed for them by the company.
Worked as a team leader for the projects named "Revamping the Websites of Public Sector Organizations Lot 1 & Lot 2" by ICTA where I handled 10 websites and completed them successfully.
During the last six months at Pooranee I managed web related projects awarded to us by ICTA, SAARC Cultural Centre, WHO, North Western Province Engineering Department and other private clients and software application projects for the Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka.
Apart from web/software development work and management of design and development teams for the successful completion and delivery of projects, I was involved in preparing project proposals, training manuals and other related documentation for various projects applied through the company.
Delivered a lecture on 27th November 2010 at the "Seminar on Modern Construction Planning" on "Internet based Tools for Project Management" organized by Pro Consultancy International (Pvt) Ltd held at ICTAD, Savsiripaya.
Job Title: Software & Database Development Specialist
Company: T. E. A. M. S. (Pvt) Ltd
Description: Developed a Disease Monitoring & Surveillance System for the Department of Animal Production and Health at Peradeniya under the Ministry of Livestock Development coordinated by the FAO and funded by USAID where I was involved in overall project management and development. The system was Web-based that accumulated data from the field that was fed in to a Geographical Information System (GIS) to enable various map-based decision making processes. Development languages, DBMS and GIS used are PHP, Java Script, AJAX, Java, XML, MySQL and ArcView 3.1.
Prepared technical proposal, carried out requirements gathering process and customized components and modules for a project called “Establishing Sustainable Kitul, Rice & Jak Production Communities through Innovative and Integrated use of ICT: eAgriExt” for the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka. The project involves developing a Web portal that includes a web catalogue for providing producers with technologies used for enhancing agriculture based production, web conferencing for facilitating information sharing between producers, buyers and agricultural experts from ITI, Agriculture Ministry, Universities, etc., SMS facilities for updating producers and buyers on production and opportunities and web services for linking producers with local and foreign market chains and identifying current market trends. The development technologies, languages and database used were Joomla, JMF, PHP, AJAX, Java Script, XML and MySQL.
Summary: I'm currently following an MSc in Innovative Technology at British Institute of Technology and E-Commerce offered by University of East London.
