Over the past 10 years I have gained solid HR experience with the BBC. I loved being part of such a creative organisation with very specific challenges in terms of structure and funding. I am now in the process of establishing my own business 'HRSavvy' which will allow me to use my HR expertise to help smaller businesses that may not have their own HR departments.

Description: Strategic Business Partnership role supporting Television.
Delivered agreed headcount reductions over a 3 year period. Effectively managed the selection process to reduce specific staff categories. This involved union negotiations, design, delivery and communication of the process. Management of subsequent appeals/grievances.
HR lead for freelance contract issues within BBC Scotland. This involved complex negotiations with unions relating to the freelance recognition agreement (TV Drama).
HR lead for the transition of the HR advisory service from BBC Scotland to Capita and related internal communications about the new service. Successfully managing relationships with Capita and BBC staff who were being outsourced (TUPE transfer) and working through all processes to ensure a smooth transition of service.
Coaching managers to enable more confidence dealing with performance, discipline, absence and other HR issues. This involved initiating, designing and delivering a range of 'HR Learning Breaks' (workshops) to help managers deliver results in these areas. I also ran an Employment Law workshop with the Talent Managers who were required to have a better understanding of employment issues.
HR lead for Training and Development. Managed the T&D budget for BBC Scotland and successfully delivered training plans and submitted bids as necessary. This required a thorough understanding of the business and analysis of training needs, particularly important as BBC Scotland progressed to digital working and multi-skilling. Chaired the BBC Scotland Training Forum.

Description: Generalist HR role working across Gaelic, Radio, Interactive, CBBC and New Media. The role involved providing information and advice on BBC policy.
Key support role to implement BBC wide initiatives such as the new appraisal system and the Flexible Working scheme.
HR managed the Production Finance Review which affected 500 staff across BBC Scotland. This involved role analysis, job re-modelling, redundancies and recruitment while encouraging significant culture change.
Liaising with trade unions regarding local individual HR cases and wider restructuring projects.
Played a key role in the management of strike action, briefing managers on the legal aspects of industrial action, inputting into contingency plans, coaching managers and managing salary deductions as necessary.

Description: The purpose of the role was to volume recruit for the manufacturing site in Bathgate. The role evolved as I moved into Graduate Recruitment and Development for Scotland and North of England.
As part of a small team I recruited 700 manufacturing staff in 6 months

Running of Graduate Assessment Days, OPQ/SHL testing and competency based interviewing.
Key member of the Global Leadership Team which focussed on skills and talent pipeline including sponsorship proposals, student initiatives and University partnerships.
Relationship building with 4 major (Engineering) Universities in Scotland and consolidation of existing relationships to promote the one-Motorola concept. Graduate intake reflected this work as we attracted graduates from the preferred Universities.
Set up a graduate recruitment calendar of events and achieved excellent buy-in & support from participating hiring managers.
Responsibility for organising graduate recruitment fairs, university presentations & visits, guest lectures and advertising.
Redundancy counselling and outplacement services provision to 3,200 employees during the closure of PCS in Bathgate.
