Growing up surrounded by food, spices and fresh produce from a young ages, My first introduction to food was through my father’s business specializing in exported exotic fruitmore...Growing up surrounded by food, spices and fresh produce from a young ages, My first introduction to food was through my father’s business specializing in exported exotic fruit and veg from Kenya, India, South America and the Med. Everyday I would help my parents sift through vegetables such as aubergines, okra, chilies, garlic and ginger laying the foundation for my love and knowledge of fresh produce.
In the early 90?s my family opened Ashna, an Indian Vegetarian restaurant offering dishes from North and South India as well as mouthwatering street food from Mumbai. The restaurant offered me the invaluable opportunity of cooking and learning the skills of the trade from the heart of the kitchen.
In 2006 I started Vermillion Cuisine, an innovative canape and party food venture, catering for a wide range of events from Weddings to Album launches, leading to me being asked to regularly contribute recipes to food website total eating.com.
Inspired to share my passion for cooking good food using simple ingredients I launched the Sutra Kitchen Cooking School in 2010 where my informal and interactive classes have been a huge success as students walk away having learnt the art of making appetising dishes such as rustic focaccia, fresh pasta or authentic Thai green curry in a matter of a few hours.
Understanding that cooking is a great way to bring people together I have recently collaborated with Asian Speed D8 to host events for Singles where they learn to cook new and exciting dishes resulting in a 3 course meal which they all share.
Since, I expanded into Sutra Kitchen Consultancy which includes consulting on the menu, creating the dishes and training up the chefs at the newly launched Sync Bar, Pinner North West London.
