To date, I have worked predominately in the environmental sector: spending two fields seasons as an ecological field assistant with Taylor Wildlife and working previously as an assistant ranger with the National Trust for Scotland. My volunteer work, to date, includes stints with Red Squirrels NE, the Tyne Rivers Trust, RSPB and Trinity Youth Association. This experience, together with my education, has allowed me to accumulate a number of transferable skills and experience in a wide range of ecological surveying procedure.
The experience listed above, coupled with that derived from my own adventures, has provided ample inspiration for my foremost love of nature writing and, at present, I maintain a popular natural history blog - Common By Nature - which recently earned me recognition at the annual Living North Awards. I also contribute content to the website of Northumberland Wildlife Trust and, previously, have acted as a content creator for websites such as Wildlife Articles, Conservation Jobs and Environment South Africa. Examples of my written work, published in a more traditional format, can be seen below.
In my free time, I commit to a range of citizen science and recording schemes - each of which has allowed me to develop sound identification skills associated with many taxonomic groups. Additionally, I am also the lead editor of New Nature; a new e-magazine written and produced entirely by young naturalists. With this venture, ultimately, aiming to promote, support and embolden young people working towards a career in the environmental sector.
