I enjoy working as part of a small team, yet also relish the creative freedom to work on my own initiative.
I am currently halfway through a two-year part-time MA in Children's Literature and Writing with Birkbeck College, University of London, where I am able to pursue my interests in literary criticism and creative writing.
I have recently moved to working for Triarchy Press on a freelance basis, to allow me to focus on my MA course and also my interest in developing a self-publishing service for other writers. I am currently looking for interesting projects to complement these other pursuits.
Area Covered: Book publishing, marketing, editorial, proofreading, book cover design, book layout design/typesetting.
Summary: I have nearly 5 years' experience working in a small Devon-based publishing company, Triarchy Press. My strong written and verbal communication skills have been honed by the high pressure publishing environment, as has my ability to liaise sensitively between authors, editors and other stakeholders. I have excellent organizational skills and I am confident in my ability to manage a high workload under pressure and to deadlines.
My role encompasses editing, marketing, author liaison, project management, administration and formatting/typesetting for offset and print on demand titles.
I have project-managed 15 titles, overseeing and coordinating the overall submission, editorial, production and marketing processes. In addition, I have been responsible for typesetting and designing covers for all of the company's titles produced since the beginning of 2007 to printers' specifications.
My marketing role has required me to become comfortable influencing people in written and face-to-face communication. As part of my role I have organized book launch events and seminars and conferences, represented Triarchy at public events and in meetings with authors, and been the point of contact for press enquiries about our publications. I write, edit and produce marketing copy for the company website, newsletters, social networking sites, direct marketing emails, leaflets, press releases, industry marketing material and the back of book jackets. I manage the electronic database of company contacts and regularly recruit new consumer contacts. I also research and contact potential reviewers for titles and use spreadsheets to record and monitor the progress of book reviews.
