I was also a coach and team selector for Liverpool-St Helens Rugby Football Club and remain a keen member from afar.
I love travel and have visited much of Europe, including the former Soviet Russia. Journeying in North Africa, I travelled through Morocco, Algeria and Niger, twice crossing the Sahara Desert by Landrover. When attending university in California, I spent time travelling and camping in Mexico.
I enjoy reading writing, wine, music and the theatre. My sporting interests include rugby, sailing and skiing, and I was previously active in canoeing. I still try to keep fit by running and swimming. I use a PC on a daily basis and I am conversant with all Microsoft packages.
At home, my time is also taken up by the renovation of a smallholding, where I enjoy spending time with my family and a menagerie’.
I have had short stories accepted for publication and, in 2005, my first novel was published: a sequel is in progress. In addition, I have written a 7000-word presentation, backed up by a PowerPoint display, on The Difficulties of Becoming Published and the Pitfalls to Avoid.
In 2005, I completed six months of tutoring two parents, who had little formal education, for Smarter than Your Kids, a Granada Television production screened in August 2005. My pupils’ progressed from D and U grades, respectively, to work of B and C standard, despite the pressures and constraints of family life and their lack of academic experience. I enjoy working with others and would like to think that whatever employment I undertake might make a difference to people’s lives.
