Job Title: Analyst
Company: Bahrain Economic Development Board
Description: As part of the EDB team for over a year now, I have worked in two departments.
Public Sector Reform:
While in this department I was working with the team to assist Ministries in putting together 6-year strategic plans that would be then tied to their budget requests to the Ministry of Finance. This included workshops with planners at ministries, as well as follow up and reviewing of the strategies. I worked with 5 government entities at this stage.
I also worked on implementation plans for different priority initiatives for ministries, and this also included close work with ministries, but more on the working team level who were actually in charge of implementation.
Later on in the year, I was moved to a newly created department which had the mandate of engaging in high-impact short term (up to a year) projects that targeted economic reform. As a part of this team, I first started work on two projects simultaneously. We did a review of the Commercial Companies Law, in light of global perceptions of Bahrain in major indices such as the World Bank Doing Business Report. A consultation with ministry stakeholders, businessmen and experts yielded ample feedback to incorporate in our targeted recommendations, which were to go through the Legislative Process in Bahrain (i.e. Parliament). In parallel, I was working on the reform of the Business Licensing Process in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, along with consultants from Singapore.
More recently, I have worked with a group of consultants from the US, on establishing a training center in Bahrain geared at increasing productivity of Bahrainis.
Now, with the events that took place in Bahrain in the beginning of 2011, I have been again put together with a team of consultants from the US to deliver a Portfolio Management Office within a ministry.
