Together, we support businesses and organisations of all shapes and sizes to communicate and educate effectively.
Prior to Nudge, my background was in journalism and education policy and teaching. Through roles in these fields I gained a wealth of communications and education expertise including:
- Website design
- Graphic design
- Copy writing
- Health news and features
- Active learning
- Citizenship education
- Blended learning
- Training, facilitation and lecturing
After the first decade of my career, I decided to set up as a sole trader and discovered People Per Hour in 2010. I am now the Director of a thriving outsourcing and communications agency. I am also a qualified teacher and visiting lecturer at a variety of further and higher education institutions.
Summary: Communications Advisor & Educator, Nudge (Cambridge), October 2010 - ongoing
My company specialises in helping clients with all their print and digital media communications requirements from copywriting to branding and fully editable websites and cost-effective search engine optimisation. I also offer particular expertise working with small and medium sized businesses, charities and educational organisations.
Development Adviser, Learning and Skills Network (LSN) (London), October 2008 – October 2010
A thorough understanding of citizenship in the national curriculum and GCSE, AS and A-level specifications was a key requirement for this role. A key responsibility was training teachers in planning citizenship programmes and courses for their learners. Co-developed a distance learning CPD level 4 certificate in citizenship, accredited by the University of Warwick. Acted as a tutor and moderator on this course and took responsibility for induction events, tutor recruitment and training. The role also involved commissioning, editing and overseeing the production of high quality curriculum materials, e-learning tools, a regular magazine, e-bulletin and marketing materials and speaking at national events.
Development Officer, Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) (London), April 2003 – October 2008
Provided advice and guidance on citizenship education in this role to both teachers and young people. I also had responsibility for the project management and delivery of multiple citizenship-related projects; for example, commissioning and editing citizenship learning materials, organising training events and delivering workshops on the key principles of effective citizenship teaching and learning.
Staff Writer & Picture Editor, Emap Plc (London), September 2000 – April 2003
Interviewed experts and case studies, wrote news and features and sub-edited copy for publication in ‘Therapy Weekly’ newspaper and ‘Here’s Health’ magazine. Also contributed to organising events, represented publications at press conferences and launches in the UK and abroad. Gave input into marketing strategy; booked and briefed high profile speakers for annual conference; supervised year 9 & 10 pupils, undergraduate and postgraduate work experience students on a daily basis. Also commissioned photographs, researched and sourced pictures from image library agencies, edited images using Photoshop and undertook sub-editing work in Quark Express (now superseded by InDesign).
