I have a long history in the fashion industry as an employee as well as a freelancer.
My cv spans from employment as Designer in a London design office to establishing a design and t-shirt print company aimed at the tourist industry in S. Africa, to currently running my own silver jewellery design company, For Keeps NI - www.forkeepsni.com
I also continue to receive Fashion, Textile and Graphic Design work on a regular basis.
Prior to freelancing, I was Designer for outer and sports wear for a N.Irish clothing company. Ranges included ladies, men, boys and girls. I researched market requirements, managed overall processes from design concept taking into account hydrophilic requirements (waterproofing/breathability) to final garment liaising with Chinese manufacturers and formulation of comprehensive production and size specifications. I was responsible for all graphic aspects of ranges, including textile design forlinings & prints, involved in photography, design and production of yearly brochure all executed using industry norm Adobe software. CAD training and use of Lectra Kaleido Style design software was also provided.
I was employed by Marks & Spencer as Visual Merchandiser and required to interpret corporate guidelines to deliver creative use of space and equipment. Liaised with Selling Advisers and Section Managers to plan sales floor layouts, displays and carry out promotional activities in store.
Prior to employment with Marks & Spencer, I was Manager of exclusive ladies wear retail outlet, Alain Manoukian. Responsibilities included management of comprehensive stock control and daily liaison with supplier, oversee computerised sales analysis system - 'Grande Flux', assistant buyer with travel to view forthcoming ranges in Paris. Involved in implementing a marketing strategy for the label in UK, liaising with Elegant, Northern Woman and Ulster Tatler magazines.
In S. Africa, where I lived from 1990 - 2000, I established a design and print company specialising in the design and production of children's T-shirts for tourist outlets, customised T-shirts and promotional packages. Due to nature of a self-run business, responsible for every aspect from product sourcing through to final invoicing. The company fulfilled a gap in the market and developed a number of regular clients including game parks, airports and tourist outlets. Orders were also received and completed through two agents based in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Clients included Natal Parks Board, SA National Tourist Board, Witwatersrand and Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens.
My first job was based in a London design office in Baker Street. I made weekly trips to the Desmonds factories in N. Ireland to liaise with production staff. Produced concept boards, prepared samples and oversaw presentations through to completion whilst working extensively with the jeans-wear factory in N. Ireland. Designed garment details including labels, embroideries and swing tickets. Research involved quarterly trips to exhibitions and retail stores throughout Europe. Clients included Marks and Spencer.

Gillian was very efficient and delivered my silver necklace exactly when agreed and in a lovely presentation box. I am delighted with my piece of jewellery which will be a beautiful and unique keepsake of my new goddaughter's tiny finger print. Thank you Gillian!
Thank you! I'm very pleased you like your jewel - very special indeed.
