Work Experience Summary: I have over 10 years experience in PR and marketing working with a variety of companies in London. I have spent time agencyside as well as in-house, and as a result I have gained experience in press release writing and selling in to media, copy writing for direct mail, e-mailers and newsletters, events management and experience in researching potential product and feature stories as well as brand management to name but a few.
A more detailed synopsis of my career and experience follows:
I started my career working in advertising for J. Walter Thompson, managing recruitment adverts for over 73 independent schools. I also worked with a corporate and legal PR agency where my role involved PR admin duties such as collating press cuttings and working closely with legal teams discussing the exposure of the law firm clients.
Working for a high street optical company, I also co-ordinated the overall marketing, from organising in-store marketing and managing PR activities in the fashion world, to advertising, and research.
My career then moved towards the furniture and interiors market where I gained experience managing the marketing for an office furnishing specialist, and later moved to working as PR manager for Wickes Home Improvement . This role involved working with the interiors press to promote and rebrand Wickes from a building supplies company. Management of the launch of new stores around the UK meant development of local marketing skills. Product management was also key when organising make-overs with press.
I have also worked with John Lewis Partnership managing and assisting with their press shows, using my creative skills to design as well as promote the shows and the display of product for press.
Again working closely with the interiors press was exciting as I have a distinct interest in interiors. Managing photography of items and conducting the usual press duties of writing releases was core.
On relocating to Birmingham, I have worked in healthcare PR and marketing for the Priory, who specialise in supporting patients with mental health disorders, such as addictions and eating disorders. Assisting in promoting the services of the hospital to the NHS and implementing national and local PR was a very different but fulfilling experience.
Finally, this brings me to my most recent role in the photographic industry, where I have recently completed a role managing the PR for a photographic accessories distribution company, where I managed six brands.
I have developed close relationships with press from approx 25 magazines and various retailers in this industry, with duties including setting up competitions and writing press releases to writing quarterly newsletters and monthly e-mail shots to a variety of audiences such as consumers and trade retailers.
I have recently decided to work freelance from home as I have always wanted my own business and feel I have gained such valuable experience that can be applied to a variety of clients. I also have a keen interest in creative arts and jewellery design , so have been spending time making and designing my own jewellery too.
Education Summary: I have a degree in Business and Marketing and an HND in Business
