As a journalist, current clients include magazines such as Homes & Antiques and Living North, and exclusive New York based travel site Jetsetter. I write features on all topics, from travel pieces to big-name interviews - recent interviewees include Martin Shaw, Virginia McKenna, JoLoMo and Stella Vine.
I have ghostwritten three books for mainstream publisher Authentic Media, including one for the gospel singer Helen Berhane, who made headlines when Amnesty International highlighted her case. The book, Song of the Nightingale, sold through its first print run in under three months.
I have a decade's experience in publishing, and am an experienced copyeditor with an industry qualification in editing. I have edited more than 40 books for publication, and written reader's reports on many more. Authors I have worked with include Adrian Plass and GP Taylor.
I was Sub Editor at a prestigious glossy lifestyle magazine for four years, and have extensive proofreading experience, usually working to a very tight deadline! Alongside features writing, I specialise in producing clear, effective advertising copy for a diverse range of clients. During my time at the magazine, I also project managed contract publishing, most recently a tenth birthday publication for BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (host of 2011's Turner Prize), and another publication for regional writing development agency New Writing North's Read regional campaign.
I hold a 2:1 in English Literature from Durham University, and an MA in Theatre and Performance Practice from Northumbria/Live Theatre. I am a member of the NUJ, and
the Society of Authors. To find out more about me, please visit my blog at girlinthegarret.blogspot.com
