I have experience in writing scripts for children's shows, regular newsletter articles, conversation pages, articles about cultural differences, and game pages in magazines. Most of my work has been for the English Language Learning market in Asia. I lived in Tokyo for almost 8 years, am married to a Japanese man and have a very good understanding of Japanese language and culture. I have spent the past 5 years working on a freelance basis as part of a product development team creating interactive learning materials for children using a home study programme called "Disney's World of English". The company I have been working with holds a third party licence to use Disney characters in their products. The products are one of the best selling English language learning materials in Japan. I have worked on many of its components, including DVD games, LeapPad activities, storybooks that can be operated in a touch pad style using a pen with a built-in speaker to name just a few! I have been involved in all aspects of the development of these products, working closely with artists, audio engineers, and project managers. As well as conceptualising, I have also proofed, edited and proposed ways in which the products can be further enhanced.
I am able to write in a variety of styles: educational with a clear language focus, chatty, philosophical, factual, flowery..., but always with a great attention to clarity and accuracy.
I am passionate about writing and helping others to relay the messages they want in whatever style they require.
I can speak Japanese very well. I have a degree in Modern Languages and am able to translate material (esp. children's material) into English from Japanese, French, or German.
I am always interested in projects that introduce me to new fields and I am usually able to adapt my skills accordingly. I look forward to hearing from you!
