Nottinghamshire, GBOur requirement was to convert the data on an Excel spread sheet to an Access data base and run the various forms and reports we currently use (using mailmerge). As per the agreed terms, Ian visited us on 22/1/13 to discuss our requirements. He went away with the promise of providing us a sample working prototype within a week or so. When the promised task was chased many times(for non-delivery) Ian promised to visit us on 10/5/13(at his expense) and deliver the prototype the same day. He visited us on the day as promised. This was appreciated and an appropriate comment was placed on PPH web site at the time. After working for about 5-6 hours on 10/5/13, Ian still could not convert the spreadsheet to Access blaming on the poor quality of data. At this stage he promised the prototype within a week. Since then and up to date it was a case of continuous postponement. During this period Ian kept on asking for various information, suggesting change of direction….etc from time to time. However, during the period Ian was constant in providing invoices for small chunks of money. We made a mistake of trusting Ian and released more than 70% of the agreed sum. The delay in implementing the order processing system has cost the company dearly from a reputational point of view. Ian has approached us with a new deadline. We have agreed to go ahead with the project on the strict understanding that the project is completed on 24th June 2013 as pledged by Ian. A Further update will be provided based on the a) Achievement of the newly agreed deadline and b) The quality of the finished product.

I don't know why this appears 3 times. Please see comments above. In summary I took the job on as a database development job not a data cleansing job. I am still prepared to provide the database and have foolishly already reduced the fee by about 20%.

Nottinghamshire, GBFurther to my previous feedback, we reluctantly agreed to a further extension of the deadline (as requested by Ian) in order to give him a one further chance. Unsurprisingly, he has not kept his word. We have therefore now cancelled the project and requested the over payment we have made to be refunded.

The company represented by Chanaka has not invested satisfactorily in the IT required to run the business. I was provided with a small amount of data (less than one hundred records). I was only provided with the 11,400 records when I visited as my own expense in May. I was also told that the spreadsheet had failed on more than 1 occasion. I did convert the spreadhsheet by connecting it as a linked server to MS SQL Server. Chanaka knows this. I have also provided a database which will enable the company to easily clean up its customer address data. There are up to 15 versions of the customer address in some instances.
This project was awarded to me as a database development job not data cleansing. However I have carried out the clean up and can now provide the database that the company requires. I think that the fee agreed is ridiculously low for the amount of data work involved. However, I am still prepared to provide the database. I visited the company at my own expense last month and I have deducted £90 from the originally agreed fee. Chanaka is still not satisfied.
