Amsterdam, NLWell what can I say - you get what you pay for! Ian is not only an experienced, qualified commercial lawyer but also a seasoned business man. He doesn't just deal with legal cases, he *really* understands things from a business owner's perspective. In a nutshell I felt that Ian was on my side and he was giving me advice as if he were in my shoes and this was his business that he were considering. He was out to *help* me first and foremost, and then almost as an afterthought sent me an invoice for his services.
Initially I had hired a junior associate solitor here on PPH but after she promised to deliver super quickly, I didn't hear from her for 10 whole days and even then she whacked up the cost of her initial agreed quote from £120 to £500 with not much of a reason as to why. Obiously I cancelled and then found Ian. What a lucky escape! I received an absolute goldmine of information from Ian about the trademark opposition I have to deal with. He gave me practical advice: he did some online research re the company who filed the opposition and gave me an overview of exactly who they are and what they do and interpreted what that meant for my business and my trademark; he told me about similar cases he'd dealt with and the successful cases he had built i.e. successful strategy in dealing with an opposition; and he then gave me his professional opinion re my specific case.
His hourly rate my seem high in comparison with other solicitors here on PPH but actually it would have been a huge false economy had I chosen someone offering a cheaper rate. Looking back in hindsight there were solicitors willing to take my money to deal with the trademark opposition and I would have lost (based on my case details), so it would have been money down the drain. They were willing to go through the motions of dealing with paperwork without actually giving me honest advice. I paid Ian for a telephone consultation and saved myself a lot of money AND learned how to build a more successful strategy for the coming months.
Save yourself a huge headache and choose Ian if you need to hire a commercial solicitor. I've been an entrepreur and have been involved in many businesses over the past 10 years and am a fussy customer when it comes to my expectations of business service providers. Ian is one of the best I have ever dealt with and he'll be my go-to guy for anything related to legal matters from now on!
