The position of ICT Advisor was to provide sound and impartial IT and Communications advice to small and medium enterprises (SME’s). This role included:
• Helping SME’s to understand how ICT might benefit their business.
• Providing first-line advice and demonstration of basic applications and to signpost them to other sources of assistance in implementation of further ICT development.
• Undertake reviews of business activities, in order to assess how ICT can fit into the overall business plan.
• Identifying opportunities for the better use of existing technology resources, and assisting the client in finding solutions to improve competitiveness and profitability.
ï‚§ Working in conjunction with the public business support infrastructure, referring on the SME to ensure they receive a holistic business support service.
ï‚§ To provide frontline ICT support for the SME’s in the unitary authority.
ï‚§ To market the ICT Support Centre service within the Local Authority Area, and ensure the centre is recognised as a valuable advise resource to local businesses and partner organisations e.g. enterprise agencies, councils.

Senior Systems Engineer - Gaming company
The key areas of responsibility at Gaming company were to provide computer-based technical services to Gaming company and its clients.
This role included:
Installation/Administration and support of the office LAN and associated mission-critical systems.
ï‚§ Administration of a Windows 2000 domain and supporting systems such as Exchange, SQL, ISA and IIS Servers.
ï‚§ Creating fault tolerant backup procedures, network security systems, anti-virus deployment and forming a coherent IT policy while providing ongoing support for existing systems.
Specification, integration and prototyping of Site Servers and Client Systems
ï‚§ Company WAN contains approximately 4000 machines. Split into Site Servers and clients, a site may contain one site server and up to 30 clients.
ï‚§ I was responsible for the specification and prototyping of new hardware for Site Servers and Client Systems; this involves testing new hardware such as motherboards, I/O cards, graphics cards and R232/RS485 adapter cards for compatibility with the Gaming company software.
Liaison with field installation and service personnel
ï‚§ Providing support for field engineers with regards to problems on existing sites and installation of new sites.
Specification, implementation and support of WAN systems
ï‚§ I provided support for the existing WAN which uses a bespoke Software Distribution System (SDS) for updating the software located at all of the Gaming company sites around the UK. The current support of the WAN involves creation and installation of new sites, script writing for updating software on sites and fault diagnostics.
Training and Personnel Development
ï‚§ Providing a training program for the Junior Systems Engineer, so that I could provide training for him in areas that we agree he should broaden his knowledge.
ï‚§ This included work with SQL Server Databases, Microsoft Exchange Servers, Microsoft ISA Server, Active Directory, Veritas Backup Exec, and in-house systems.
ï‚§ Roll-out of broadband across approximately 2000 sites on the company estate.
