Development and maintenance of SB+ and D3 system on Linux; Windows 2003 server; Gordano mail server on Linux.
Support for a quantity and time measurement system using Informix on SCO and Windows workstation for monitoring the presses.
Support for MS Office users - in excess of 100; support for systems running under MS2003 and SQL server; part of a team devising communications between the various computer system used for press monitoring.
Extracting data from the D3 database and constructing the JDF for direct Agfa-Gevart Delano and Apogee X computer to plate for the presses.
Preparing and submitting the annual returns for HMRC as XML files.

April 2000 - Premier Software Limited (Contract) I was contracted to Premier Software for a short period as a Senior Analyst/Programmer to support of existing SB+ and D3 system on a variety of host systems
MWR Systems Ltd
Software Manager for MWR Systems who are a small software house specialising in SB+ systems; they developed a Java based MySQL system for limited e-commerce.
The work was maintenance programming of a SB+ system using Unidata on a Linux machine.
Planet Direct are a fulfilment house for direct marketing.
Each month about 500,000 people are mailed. The system handles selection and response processing. Additionally entries are accepted by direct debit (about 40,000 per month) and credit card.
Two servers are used for the system - one to manage the data capture system and the other to support a network of Windows PCs for marketing and selections.
The system has been designed and implemented using a multi-value database. Initially D3 was used. The system was implemented using Data/Basic originally under SCO Unix and subsequently NT. A change to Universe was taken at the end of 1998. All of the data is now stored using the multi-value model. Access, Excel or Word (depending on the desired result) link directly to the data in Universe via ODBC.
Duties and responsibilities: The day to day running of the IS department. Systems design and implementation using Data Basic and VB5 as programming languages, MS Office and Crystal Reports for user presentation.
Time-Slot Computing Service (Pty) Limited
Manager of Software Development at Time-Slot who were a computer service bureau combining conventional batch with on-line processing.
Payroll, debtors, creditors were offered as standard packages and custom systems were implemented as required.
A data capture bureau was part of the company.
The multi-value data model was the underlying database for all of the products. Pick was used on the bureau computers and on PCs supplied with end user systems.
Sanyo/Icon RISC 8000 - Unix and Pick, Compaq SCO/AP, 'Own Brand' SCO/AP development system, PCs using R83 Pick or Windows; NT server
Maintenance of operating system and database system software. ViaDuct, SBTerm and Wintegrate terminal emulation and data transfer were used for PC to Pick transfer. System Builder and SB+ were the preferred fourth generation development tools. Data Basic and VB as programming languages.
Fund raising- implemented on a Compaq running SCO/AP. My responsibility were feasibility, design and implementation (see Planet Direct above).
Networking - design and implement a system for a network of subscribers for a purchase card to be used in day to day shopping; the design of the subscriber base and the method of paying commission on subscriptions and purchases to be open-end. SB+ was the primary implementation tool.
Subscription management for a charity - a system to collect committed pledges from a specific community. Pledges are collected by cheque, debit order and credit cards. System Builder.
Medical Accounting - for consultations, , payments, dispensing medicines and materials etc. The system allows different types of practices and the charging of rates for various Medical Aid Societies. Full VAT accounting is included. System Builder.
Vehicle engine parts - development and support of one of the leading engine part suppliers using an in-house system supporting 11 branches - about 80 terminals and 30 printers in major South African cities. System Builder on Pick/Unix.
