Job Title: Technical Support Executive
Company: Foretel Ltd, Harrogate
Description: My role at Foretel comprised of two main aspects; Customer Support and Installation, and Internal Systems Administration. The Customer Support and Installation was for the applications developed by Foretel. This was a customer centric role which required an expected standard of professionalism from me. This included high standards in supporting hosted solutions, and customer facing abilities. I had to ensure that the hosted solutions remained available within the agreed service hours, especially the SQL databases used during crucial periods. Our customers included Smile, Co-Operative Bank, Alliance and Leister, Britannia Building Society, Skipton Building Society and Wakefield City Council.
Additionally I was responsible for Internal Systems Support. As the Systems and Database Administrator I managed the development and testing environment, and the internal business network. We relied on several development and production SQL Server 2000 databases, and virtual servers and it was my responsibility to ensure that they were ready and functioning for the developer and testing teams.

Job Title: IT Manager
Company: Morrell Middleton Accountants
Description: I took the role of IT Manager at an accounting firm, as well as its subsidiary computer services company, which provided computer maintenance and sales to clients.
I had taken on the challenge of redefining the company function and structure, to reflect an updated business need. I changed the focus of the company from Computer Services to an IT Management company. One of my first priorities was to implement a service desk system whereby incidents could be centrally managed. Doing so gave me a better view of the services offered to clients, and how those services could be tailored to better serve the clients. It also enabled me to keep track of incident resolution times and service levels. Based on the information I gained, I defined three Service Level Agreements, which reflected three different types of services to business requirements of our existing clients.
I also began the process of improving the infrastructure and technology of our clients, and implementing systems administration policies. These led to more stable systems, reduced administrative costs and renewed client confidence. This in turn increased the client base.
Job Title: Systems Administrator
Company: CN IT Management & Support
Description: Currently self employed as an IT Systems Administrator. I started up during the recession and found that the SME sector was inadequately covered when it came to quality IT support. Small and medium sized companies who could not afford internal IT staff generally had to make use of computer services companies who lacked in-depth knowledge on how to ensure IT systems run optimised and efficiently.
I have spent the last two years working with clients to realise lower IT costs whilst improving the level of service. I have continued to grow a client base during the recession, based on high quality services.
