With such dedication to the arts, Ive been writing books, plays and articles for a number of years naturally leading me into a career where I can express these talents.
First and foremost, however, I am a creative person; the kind of right-brained enthusiast that sees from the angles that others dont. Its why, when I discovered what a creative team in advertising did, I put all my energy into getting my foot in the door.
I started by rearranging my course at university so that I could fit a new module into it one where I self-taught myself the basics of the advertising industry. I researched all the great creatives and got work experience at some fantastic London agencies.
The work experience fuelled my ambition even further testing me with late nights and strict deadlines, which I happily lapped up, adapting to each new environment with a personable attitude and willingness to dive in head first.
Area Covered: London
Work Experience Summary: Alphabet advertising (Copywriter) 08/08 03/10: The experience Ive picked up at Alphabet has been an invaluable introduction to the advertising industry. Working in a creative team is something that Ive grown very fond of, and have learnt a lot about different thought processes, tone of voice and brand identity. However, working by myself is something that Im also very comfortable with whether its proof reading documents, writing long copy or presenting ideas. As a niche-based agency, many of our clients were from the finance industry (AEGON Asset Management, Experian, Santander Private Banking, QBE). We did, however, work on a variety of other clients such as the charities Plan International and The Dyslexia SpLD Trust, the student ski specialist Wasteland, The London Transport Museum and EA Games. Aside from developing my conceptual thinking, Alphabet has drummed into me the importance of attention to detail and exceptional written English which I have been perfecting for the last two years.
High-Point Communications 03/08 07/08: From day one on this placement, I was involved in brainstorming sessions, writing creative briefs, designing and finalising adverts, as well as helping with the recruitment advertising for companies such as Harper Collins, Pinsent Masons and Park resorts. High-Point taught me the basics of account handling that will be particularly useful throughout my career.
The Truth Agency 03/08 07/08: This agency provided me with a creative placement, assisting the teams with their busy workload. I worked on new creative concepts for consumer brands such as Sure Girl, Kia and Antica Sambuca.
Rise 03/08 07/08: Rise is primarily involved in the advertising and marketing for J D Wetherspoons. My involvement included working alongside the designers and proof reading all documents before they were sent to press.
Face On Magazine (Freelance journalist) 07/09 present.
