Being very much a people person I have strong interpersonal skills that allows me to communicate well at all levels. I am a positive and creative person with a good sense of humour. Highly adaptable and flexible and able to use own initiative and prioritise in any situation. A conscientious, committed and hands-on worker who enjoys a challenge.
From working as the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service System Administrator / Information Analyst , I have gained a vast amount of skills and knowledge. This experience, added to my IT background, has helped me grasp many of the programs and problems that occur on a daily basis.
In my current role I work mainly alone but communicate with people on a daily basis either resolving issues with the system I am responsible for, Carenotes, or analysing data extracted from Carenotes using SQL.
I was involved in rolling out the system to the service which involved:
training staff on the use of the system day to day both using presentations and practical sessions
creating reports to run monthly
coding new forms to use within the system
developing new ways of working more efficiently
setting up letter templates using SQL in XML documents
I am a skilled user in Microsoft Office, both using and supporting these programs for myself and others. I am able to install, repair and upgrade Microsoft operating systems as well as configure settings to make for a better working environment.
I have become adept at communicating with a wide range of users, informing them of any problems and steps to a resolution using appropriate language to ensure the users are able to understand. I am able to handle calls of all urgencies calmly and effectively. I feel I have a calming influence on people and can communicate a friendly but professional attitude.
I am always willing to learn new skills and expand on any knowledge I already have, looking for any opportunity to develop. I am a very flexible worker and work well as part of team, as I am friendly, positive and am very approachable. I also work well using my own initiative, managing my own workload effectively so all deadlines are met in a timely fashion.
As part of the breast screening administration team I gained numerous skills and knowledge of NHS systems and technologies. As part of the administration team I am required to use over 6 different systems to input and edit patient data, and book appointments. The position also requires me to communicate with patients both face to face and via telephone, handling various inquiries regarding the breast screening process. I again was required to work as part of a team and also work independently using my initiative to make decisions.
As part of my MSc I created and developed a business, whilst gaining knowledge and an understanding of business strategy and theory. One of the projects delivered via the business was that of developing a visual training package for a client which involved the use of 3D animations. To ensure the client's needs were fulfilled I developed a project plan, communicated effectively through the development of a business proposal, one to one meetings, focus groups, presentations and supporting documentation. There was also a requirement of the following knowledge and skills:
Databases, to keep track of stock, customers and projects
Excel, used for expenditures and revenue, with tax and vat
Effective and professional communication
Also as part of my business I worked with the NHS developing training materials. This process gave me a good insight into how the NHS works from a different perspective.
In February 2011 I took part in a 6 week work experience placement with Sunderland city council, working in Washington town centre library. Whilst on this placement I gained knowledge and experience in the library computer systems, shelving and organising books, dealing with customers, and handling monies for services. I also dealt with many administration tasks such as handling stock and general office duties such as photocopying, printing and stock checking.
In the 3 years previous to me starting the Masters in Software Enterprise, I had been working in schools as part of an ICT department both as a teacher and as a teaching assistant. Both these roles required me to use ICT every day. This and my previous University experience has meant that I am fully literate in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, Access and Publisher. Using these packages I am able to collect and manipulate data, analysing and presenting it in a suitable format. I can use different models to present data and create validation rules to make it more efficient. I also used these skills when analysing student data from the schools databases and spread sheets. As a teacher I also created user guides for pupils to use when using a new program, these were written in simple language for them to understand and implement effectively. These included programs such as Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks, used in the creation of a website.
Also as a teaching assistant my role was to support staff, both in the classroom and by taking an administrative role in the office, filing documents where needed, updating data and spread sheets and other office based jobs.
From working in such varied environments I have become an excellent team worker, but I am also able to work independently prioritising and organising my own workload. I feel all the skills I have learned and improved throughout my academic and early career are transferable, and should strengthen my suitability for the IT Service Desk Analyst post.
I am always looking to further and learn new skills, both in my professional and personal life.
In September 2006 I embarked on a trip around the USA and Canada which I undertook alone, this helped me gain many skills, including how to stay level headed in stressful situations, I also learnt how to communicate effectively with people from different cultural and diverse backgrounds.
