Since that time I have spent the majority of my career working in clinical posts in both the NHS and in the Private medical sector.
For the next seven years I broadened my experience by moving to Southampton General Hospital where I took on a variety of roles and continued my professional development by undertaking various ENB courses which led to my post-registration diploma in nursing studies in 2001.
In 1993 I took a one year sabbatical from my medical career to help with the establishment of a diving school at Khao Lak in South West Thailand. This involved assisting with the development of the commercial, technical and marketing strategies.
Upon my return I returned to nursing and chose to specialise in Operating theatre work gaining the appropriate accreditations and qualifications.
In March of 1995 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which was successfully treated. As a result of my illness I developed and ran a non profit organisation with the main focus being the development of one the first Internet web site for patients and families whose lives have been affected by cancer. At that time it was voted and publicised as one of the top five hundred international web sites. There was considerable media interest in the site, it was featured on Local and National Television and had several features on radio including Medicine Now on Radio 4. There were also many regional, national and international newspaper and magazine write ups, including some in the medical press. I was approached by the Wessex Cancer Trust who were interested in my input, and over a four year period I helped them raise their profile, this included the development and maintenance of their web site.
I continued my work in the Health Sector in various roles however; after completing a MSc in Project Manager have work in this capacity since 2003.
I now live mostly in France but still maintain my health care roles and work remotely for a Solent Healthcare via a VPN connection.
Area Covered: Medical, research, business management, financial management, report writing, investigation and analysis.
Work Experience Summary: I am a registered nurse (qualifying in 1989 and still on the register) and have an MSc in Project Management 2004.
I am now based in France and work remotely (as a Project manager) on discrete projects that need clinical or business management support. I have been employed by a local health care trust since November 2003.
My most recent experience has been working with the long term conditions team and compilation and continued development of the CQC standards. Prior to this I spent two years supporting the community nursing team and the clinical governance team ; this included development and writing of local policy and procedures; conducting audits, analysing data and research materials; compiling reports and papers for the organisation and executive boards.
My skill set includes service re-design manager, with some operational function, for cardiac nursing services, diabetes nursing services, respiratory medicine and General Practitioners with Special Interests (GPwSI) and Practitioners with Special Interests (PwSI). This includes ENT, dermatology, ophthalmology, cardiology and endoscopy. Business development, commissioning, procurement, contract management, financial management, risk assessment and implementation of new systems. My involvement in these projects has been at local, Strategic Health Authority and Department of Health level.
I have been also involved in a private funding initiative for a new estate development and a lean thinking initiative around the 18 week pathway, in partnership with Unipart and Atos.
Through my marketing and negotiation skills I have also secured funding and sponsorship from outside agencies for a partnership programme and several research projects.
In 1993 I took a one-year sabbatical from my medical career to help with the establishment of a diving school in South-West Thailand. I was involved with the development of commercial, technical and marketing strategies as well as day-to-day management.
