Imore...I have extensive experience with all manner of industrial sewing machines; not only this but I truly love and have a passion for all aspects of sewing both by machine and by hand!
I am an extremely hard worker, and I am very keen to listen and learn from those working within the fashion business industry, and am certainly willing and very eager to take on any challenge given to me!
I have loved every moment of studying for my degree in fashion, which I have just completed, and personally revel in fashion trend following. Last summer I completed a 6 week internship with Topman design (though my preference is for womanswear), and I got to work with both the design teams and the pattern cutters; I feel I really gained great insight into the processes involved in initial research collecting through to design and then pattern development and realisation.
Alongside working towards my fashion degree I continued to work part-time at a repair and alterations specialist shop in Southampton, which I previously worked fulltime at for a year prior to my studies. In this job I have become very familiar with helping to assess and analyse garment fit issues, and how to work with existing garment construction to create the best fit and finish, which I feel has helped expand my knowledge of all basic elements of fashion.
Area Covered: South East England
Work Experience Summary: After completing a degree in Business Economics I studied Art Foundation at Exeter College and discovered my passion for fashion and fashion design. I originally chose to study business as I feel it is an essential part of any industry, along with accounting and finance. I then went onto study
For a year prior to my current studies in Fashion I worked fulltime for a local tailor Mr Barry Rogers, doing any and every kind of clothing alterations and repairs, which have included fully re-sizing gentlemen’s jackets trousers, and bridalwear.
I continued working this position part-time whilst studying for my degree in fashion, and my duties expanded into creating and adjusting patterns, and also conceiving and creating all workshop/course teaching plans/handouts for the Barry Rogers School of Sewing in Southampton.
A few months before my BA in Fashion commenced, I worked with a local well-known bridalwear designer Nicki Hill, based in Botley. I was taken on to work alongside their two permanent staff, a pattern-cutter and seamstress, primarily for my skills in hand-sewing and finishing, during their busy Summer period. I learnt a lot about working under pressure to tight schedules, yet maintaining a very high standard of work.
Last summer I completed a 6 week work experience internship in the Pattern Room at Topman Design in London, in which I got to experience working in the fashion industry and within a team that has to continually co-ordinate with each other and the other departments.
After I took some time to travel this summer, I then completed a 4 week internship with the fashion design house Les Chiffoniers. I gained experience with, and insight into the design and workings of high fashion. At the end of my internship I was invited to go with the designer and production manager to Paris, to assist them at the London Show Rooms trade show where I gained further insight into interactions with all manner of different buyers.
