Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the blog/website: Festive/seasonal shopping website
Tone: Informal/Casual
Outline & Structure: Are you a writer who truly understands HOW to write conversational content for the web?
Do you let your personality shine through when you write?
Can you produce the sort of content that readers can relate to? The sort of content that makes readers want to share it on social media because they found it useful, helpful or darn right entertaining?
Good, because I could sure do with your assistance.
I’m not looking for a writer who writes for writing sake. Please. Move along if that’s you.
I’m looking for a writer who knows how to provoke a reaction with their writing. You know, make someone smile (or rant), laugh out loud, become a subscriber, click on a link to buy something...
You’ll be writing for a festive/seasonal themed website, so you’ll need to love the pants of Christmas, Halloween, Easter... heck, you’ll need to love ALL festive and seasonal holidays.
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- A sense of humour. Duh! You can’t write the sort of content I need if you can’t laugh at yourself or others
- A certain fearlessness about dropping slang words into your writing. I’m not one for overly fancy words or boring corporate speak. I’m a write-as-I-speak kinda gal and you should be too (unless you’re a guy)
- An understanding of up to date SEO practices. If you mention in your proposal anything to do with keyword density, Copyscape blah, blah, blah, I will know, you know nothing about SEO post Panda/Penguin and I will laugh at you
- Ability to write US English
- Ability to write headlines that command attention
- To know what secret Pinterest boards are – we’ll be using these a lot
- Understand the importance of personas and calls to action
- Ability to meet deadlines and take constructive criticism
Most of the content will be list-type content (featuring products or festive ideas), around 500-600 words; all fun stuff to write about.
I’ll provide the keywords/topics.
I do need to see a sample or two of your work. Must be LIVE links to a list-type post and/or product review. Once again, this needs to sparkle with your personality and be conversational in nature.
NOTE: Please don't send links to your entire portfolio or the homepage of some website and expect me to find the relevant stuff. I will decline your proposal.
Finally...
You MUST be a native English speaker.
This is non-negotiable.
And don’t even think of trying to ‘fool’ me by claiming you’re a native English speaker. The grammar and phraseology in your proposal and samples will give you away my friend.
So, to all qualified parties - bring on the proposals!
